Dipped and Rolled

I set out walking, young and bold,

With dreams of silver, streets of gold.

The road was straight, or so I thought,

But life had lessons to be taught.

I met a man with eyes so wide,

Who claimed the stars could speak and guide.

I laughed him off, but lo and behold—

That night, they whispered truths untold.

“Well, I’ll be dipped and rolled in cracker crumbs,”

I muttered, struck by what had come.

I took a job to earn my way,

Thought hard work would surely pay.

The boss man grinned, the wages shrank,

And life became a tighter bank.

A beggar said, “Son, here’s the trick:

The richest men steal twice as quick.”

And as the bankers bled me dry,

I saw the truth and heaved a sigh.

“Well, I’ll be dipped and rolled in cracker crumbs,”

Fooled again—how blind I’ve been, and dumb.

I crossed a bridge of solid stone,

But halfway through, it groaned and moaned.

The path I swore was firm and true

Came crashing down with no ado.

I tumbled hard, but rose once more,

Dusted off and shook my core.

No road is safe, no way is sure,

Yet onward still, I must endure.

“Well, I’ll be dipped and rolled in cracker crumbs,”

Another fall, but up I come.

Then one fine day, through rain and shine,

I met a heart that beat with mine.

Her laughter rang, her touch was light,

She turned my darkness into bright.

Through every storm, she took my hand,

And side by side, we learned to stand.

If love is real, then now I know—

It finds you when you let life flow.

“Well, I’ll be dipped and rolled in cracker crumbs,”

Through all the twists, true love still comes.

So here I stand, a little worn,

A little bruised, a little torn.

The world’s a trickster, that’s for sure,

Yet still, I walk—there’s more in store.

And when the sky throws something new,

Some twist I swore could not be true,

I’ll shake my head and grin real wide,

Accept the joke, enjoy the ride.

“Well, I’ll be dipped and rolled in cracker crumbs,”

Life’s just a game—you take your lumps.
